Bryant Community Garden

A Garden of Our Own

A long time dream of the Bryant neighborhood will move closer to reality in the spring of 2015 at the the northwest corner of 38th Street in south Minneapolis. This spring, the empty lot adjacent to Phelps Park is slated to become the home of the Bryant Neighborhood Community Garden.

A Long Time Dream Moves Forward

The project is the culmination of years of work by the BNO with Council Member Elizabeth Glidden’s office. The empty lot, was reviewed by the city as a potential site for one of the homes moved for the new co-op on 38th street. Minneapolis Public Works, the owner of the site deemed it unsuitable for housing because of a high water table. So, instead of the new house the site may be on its way to become the home of a new community garden.

Community Garden Task Force

The BNO has formed a Community Garden Task Force – a committee made up of interested residents who will provide leadership on all aspects of the project. Starting a community garden is a complex task. And, there is a lot of work to do before plants go into the ground.
